THE STATE OF COASTAL EROSION IN PUERTO RICO AFTER HURRICANE MARIA

A study of the state coast Puerto Rico was conducted in 10 municipalities for 2017 to 2018 period. The main goal this evaluation is identify beach Post- Hurricane María (September 2017) at municipality level. using integration remote sensing techniques (high resolution images; unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), geospatial database design and field work. Findings indicate presence two types coastal erosion after occurrence Maria. These are: bluff erosion. Important loss sand occurred beaches located on northwest, north-cantral southeast coastlines island In 2018, a recovery identified most sites. One important findings identification migration inland Rincón, Añasco, Barceloneta Humacao. Beach define new scenario that may increase physical, social infrastructure vulnerability zone. are an contribution management planning territory, especially facing extreme events climate change scenarios.
